Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, a carnival barker, died when she was a small girl, requiring her mother to support the family by working as waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth was a student and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. But she quit school only after two years to explore a career in acting. The path she chose to take turned out to be filled with challenges and In New York, she obtained a job posing for stills in a magazine for crime however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. In New York, she was employed at a bar, as an entry-point girl, before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make enough money with her ushering duties throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed with the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. She was a drama student at the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
